The spotlight hit me, and the question came: "So, what do you do for a living?"
I said the words: "I’m a Fractional CFO."
The comedian didn’t miss a beat. "Fractional? So you’re like a maths problem that never got solved? Do you only show up for 1/5th of the disasters?"
The room roared. I laughed too - mostly because he wasn't entirely wrong.
Being a Fractional CFO sounds like a corporate riddle, but the reality is actually quite simple (and a little bit funny):

- I’m the "Rent-a-Boss": I provide 100% of the financial discipline for 20% of the overhead.
- I’m the Corporate Reality Check: I spend my mornings explaining to visionary founders that "market vibes" aren't an accepted currency for payroll.
- I’m the Strategic Navigator: I help companies with "commitment issues" get elite-level financial leadership without the full-time C-suite salary.
In short: I’m the person who ensures the foundation is solid before the house gets too big to manage.
I might only be there for a fraction of the week, but I’m there for 100% of the results.
